What began as a small Andalusian fishing-village is now one of the most exciting holiday destinations along the Mediterranean coast. A world famous haven for the rich and beautiful and a growing destination for residents from around the world, Marbella is a unique mix of traditional Spain and International chic.
What makes Marbella such a desirable place to spend time? Great beaches, climate (with an average temperature of 18,7ºC), fantastic sporting facilities, world-class restaurants, hotels, entertainment, friendly people and fascinating local history... The Marbella municipality extends from Cabopino to Guadalmina and and it’s coastline boasts some 26 kilometres of sunny beaches.
Marbella One important area not to miss is the Old Town of Marbella, also called "Casco Antiguo". A labyrinth of narrow streets and tiny squares surround the Orange Square (Plaza los Naranjos) and the majestic main church 'Iglesia de la Encarnacion' where bougainvillas and geraniums add their colorful counterpoint to blazing white lime washed facades and the noble ocre of the worn stones of the once powerful Muslim castle.
A fabulous range of restaurants serving every style of food from delicious tapas to creative International fare can be found around every corner. Art lovers should head down to the Paseó maritimo in Marbella via the magnificent Alamaeda park full of shaded benches and lush greenery that boasts half a dozen statues by the famous Spanish artist Salvador Dali. The amphitheatre at Constitution Park (once the garden of a private residence) is also a popular backdrop for concerts and plays in the summer.
Puerto Banús For the ultimate cosmopolitan playground, head to glamorous Puerto Banús just west of Marbella. A mecca to shopping, exclusive dining and nightlife, the port area offers the perfect location to ‘people watch’ from the comfort of a yachtside café. If you’re looking for sun, Puerto Banús also boasts 2 public beaches served by various restaurants and beach bars.
Heading East If Marbella is your base, there are a variety of destinations along the coast that are definitely worth a visit. Heading East from Marbella you will find the popular tourist destinations of Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Benalmadena where a range of activities for the whole family are at your disposal. Tivoli World, Selwo Marina, Water Parks, Horse racing and Fuengirola Zoo to name a few.
