The rocky road towards success in Hollywood is wrought with disappointment, tough competition and shattered dreams yet, as Marisa Cutillas discovers, these celebrity BFFs have managed to weather the toughest of storms, relying on each other to ride through the sometimes acrimonious ambience that prevails.
Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer
Talk about an unlikely alliance! Irreverent comedian, Amy Schumer, and Oscar winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence, seem just about as opposite as can be – one starring in Trainwreck as an alcohol guzzling party animal who just can’t commit – and the other garnering great acclaim for everything from Winter’s Bone (in which she plays a little girl forced to solve a crime and fend for her two young siblings) to Silver Linings Playbook (Lawrence is the recovering nymphomaniac who finds solace in the arms of a depressed ex-con).
The chemistry between Schumer and Lawrence was there from the start – so much so that they took just three months after meeting to decide to write a movie together. Their friendship began when Lawrence mentioned Schumer’s name casually during an interview, leading Schumer to freak out on social media.
A little later, after seeing Schumer in Trainwreck, Lawrence emailed the comedian, stating, “I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you.” The stars began emailing each other and Schumer, trying to be friendly, invited Lawrence to a boat trip with her closest friends. Says Schumer, “It was kind of a hypothetical ― and she was like, ‘I think I’m coming!'”
The pair posted pics on social media and soon began working on a new comedy. J-Law recently told The New York Times: “We play sisters. We’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us.” Lawrence explained it, like it was totally no big deal, and friends just do this kind of thing every day.
“Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavours. It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. I’m flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago.”
Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz is notoriously private, so much so, she caught the media by surprise when she recently wed Good Charlotte singer, Benji Madden, yet one small tidbit of information she has shared with us, is her friendship with the much more open Drew Barrymore.
This is one of those slow brewing friendships that have been around long before either actress became a Hollywood hit. Drew told Marie Claire magazine: “I’ve known Poo Poo [Cameron Diaz] since I was 14 years old. We just happened to know each other before her career started, and I was working in a coffeehouse trying to refigure out my life.”
Despite Barrymore’s busy role as the mother of two toddlers, she has managed to keep Diaz close. Their friendship extended into their professional lives, with the two starring in Charlie’s Angels…
