A few words about
the Marbella Awards
Organised by Essential Marbella Magazine in association with JYSKE Bank Gibraltar, the countdown for the 2011 edition of the Marbella Awards has BEGUN.
The original idea, conceived by essential magazine's Creative Director back in 2006, was to reward the efforts of those companies that strive to enhance our lives and make Marbella a special place to be. Within a general survey, nominated companies include many high profile businesses, and members of the local community are encouraged to vote for their favorites in various lifestyle categories.
The Aim
Endorsed by the Marbella Townhall, the aim of the essential Marbella Awards is to bring
attention to these exceptional businesses and to give them the recognition they have worked hard for and richly deserve.
Winners can feel justifiably proud as they display their People's Choice seal as a mark of distinction, acknowledged by the Marbella Community.
Media & Charity
The media campaign that supports the Marbella Awards is impressive with coverage led by essential magazine and
with participation by many of the area's top media, radio stations and online content providers. This results in thousands of
votes that accurately reflect public opinion, as well as a well attended Gala evening where further donations are collected in
benefit of local charity organisations.
Winners
The voting period, which officially began on the 5th of September, will last for 9 weeks until the 10th
of November and the winners of each category will be announced at the glittering
Awards Gala Evening.
Why Vote?
You will be making your opinion count in your local community by rewarding those companies that you consider do a great job and have impacted your life in a positive way. If people are recognised for their efforts, it promotes enthusiasm and motivation, which in turn raises the standard all round.
Helping Others
Another important aspect of the Marbella Awards is that of helping local charities. When you support the event, you also help those in need. In 2010, the ticket sales and raffle on the evening itself raised an impressive €10.000 for the Cuidad de los Niños Children's Home in Málaga who provide accommodation and schooling to disadvantaged children. This year the amount raised for the two nominated charities (see below) was over €11.000 thanks to the generosity of those who attended and the companies who donated such fabulous raffle prizes. Cesare Scariolo Trust
Which is a private non-profit organisation whose fundamental objective is to give direct aid to children suffering from cancer and providing psychological and social help for their families.
Fundaspandem
Which is responsible for the care of persons with disabilities, providing legal aid and guardianship while encouraging each individual to learn and continue to do what they can for themselves, finding a workplace and integrating into society. www.fundaspandem.org

The Rules
We have been working hard to develop a voting system that is both user friendly and which safeguards against any kind of 3rd party manipulation. This bespoke online voting system has the capacity to process the thousands of voting forms simply and accurately allowing one vote per person and requires email validation.
The personal information collected is private and will only be used in order to complete the vote and to enter the respondent into a prize draw to win the grand prize.

The Marbella Awards
Gala Evening
The Salón Andalucia at the Hotel Puente Romano was the venue for the glittering Marbella Awards Gala Evening which took place on Saturday the 19th of November. Organised by Essential Magazine and in association with Jyske Bank, this prestigious event was attended by over 250 guests and involved the presentation of 16 Awards to Marbella's most popular companies covering a range of business categories.
The evening was hosted by UK television personality Shivani Mair with co-presenter Mugge Fischer and consisted of a lively cocktail reception and sumptuous gala dinner with a fabulous line-up of live entertainment performed by Quike Navarro, Monkey Tennis and Yanela Brooks.
The Awards were presented during an Oscar's-style ceremony involving the Spanish National Basketball Coach, Sergio Scariolo and José Luis Hernández, the Tourism Minister of Marbella Town hall. The event, endorsed by the Ayuntamiento de Marbella, was also an important fundraising effort, with all proceeds from ticket sales and a generous raffle draw, which totaled more than €11.000, going to two charities: the Fundación Cesare Scariolo, devoted to children suffering from cancer and their families, and the Fundación Tutelar (Fundaspandem), which helps the disabled.
